Rearranging pages in a PDF — moving a cover page, swapping sections, or dropping pages you do not need — is a structural rewrite, not a visual edit. You set the order in the browser (typed numbers or dragged thumbnails); pypdf on the server writes a new file that contains only the pages you listed, in that sequence.
Pages you don't list are dropped from the output. Entering 1,3,5 on a 5-page document gives you a 3-page PDF with pages 2 and 4 removed — reorder and delete in one pass.
Typing 1,2,3,3 outputs page 3 twice. Useful for emphasizing a reference page, creating duplicate signature pages, or building double-sided print templates.
Typing page numbers is fastest for small reorders. For bigger shuffles, scroll to the thumbnail picker and drag pages into place — more accurate than counting in a long document.
pypdf reads the upload, then writes a fresh PDF by calling add_page() for each number you listed — in that order. Pages you omit never enter the writer. Pages you list twice are copied twice. The original file is not modified in place.
A comma list like 3,1,2 is parsed as 1-based page numbers. The drag picker sends a JSON array of the same indices. Either way the server ends up with an explicit sequence and refuses to write a zero-page file if every number is out of range.
Each page object — content stream, fonts, images — is referenced into the new file. Nothing is rasterized, so a 200-page shuffle finishes in seconds and looks identical to the source pages. If you need to change the words on a page, that is the PDF Editor, not this tool.
