Split PDF Online Free

Pull individual pages or page ranges out of a PDF into separate files, delivered as a single zipped download. Good for sharing one section of a long document.

About this tool

Whether you need to extract a single page, separate chapters, or break a large document into smaller parts, PDFwarp's split tool gives you precise control. Select individual pages, ranges, or split every page into its own file.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF you want to split.
  2. Enter specific page numbers or ranges (e.g. 1-3, 5, 7-9), or leave blank to split every page.
  3. Download your pages as individual PDFs in a ZIP file.

Tips for best results

Know your syntax

Single pages, comma-separated, with ranges using hyphens — e.g. 1,3,5-7,12 pulls five non-contiguous pages. Leave the field blank to split every page into its own file.

Extract, don't split

If you only need pages 4-6 out of a 200-page report, enter 4-6 and you'll get a single clean PDF. Splitting the whole thing and picking afterwards is slower and wastes a conversion.

Name before you split

Set the Output filename field before clicking Split. Your pages come out as name_1.pdf, name_2.pdf — useful when you're splitting multiple documents in a row.

Hit a limit? Compress first

25 MB is tight for long scanned documents. Run the source through Compress PDF at Medium first, then split — you'll fit more work into the free tier.

Under the hood

Splitting is structural, not visual

Pages are lifted out of the source document object-by-object with pypdf and written into fresh PDFs. Nothing is rendered to pixels and nothing is recompressed — each extracted page carries its original fonts, images, and vector content untouched. That's also why a 500-page document splits in seconds: the work is bookkeeping, not drawing.

How the range syntax is parsed

The pages field accepts single pages, comma lists, and hyphen ranges in any combination — 1,3,5-9,12 produces exactly those pages. Each requested range becomes its own output PDF, and everything is packaged into a single ZIP on the server so you get one download instead of a dozen.

Originals stay intact

Splitting reads your source and writes new files — the uploaded original is never modified, and like every PDFwarp upload it's deleted from the server the moment your download completes.
